Teri Shanahan BSC (HONS) DipObsGyni AFPA

I am a qualified and experienced general practitioner of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. Over the last several years I opened and worked in two very busy clinics in the UK before returning home to Cavan and opening my clinic here.

Whilst in the UK I was fortunate enough to study for my BSc in Acupuncture at the highly reputable Northern College of Acupuncture (NCA) in the city of York and before that completed a Diploma at the Lansdowne College of Acupuncture and Complementary Medicine in Dublin. Since completing my acupuncture degree, I have continued studying in areas I find interesting, such as Fertility, Anxiety and Oncology Acupuncture.

I have a special interest in Female Health and am continually furthering my education in this field and gained a Post-Grad Dip in Gynecology, Fertility and Obstetrics from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine CICM earlier this year.

The effective use of acupuncture to help with the side-effects of cancer treatments is well known in Western Oncology and I took the opportunity in 2020 during lock-down to complete one of the world’s most comprehensive Oncology Acupuncture programs and was awarded an Oncology Acupuncture International Certificate. Undergoing the extra training in both Western and Chinese medicine specifically for treating patients undergoing cancer treatment is a must for any practitioner wanting to become part of the oncology treatment support system.

I hold a level 4 in Sports Massage, which I often find the need to integrate within an acupuncture treatment, particularly when treating reduced range of movement from muscle-tendon injuries.

My earlier studies were focused on cranio-sacral therapy, it's a light touch therapy that enhances the body's own natural capacity for healing and Reflexology, treating points and areas in the feet that relate to corresponding parts of the body.

I am a strong believer in evidence-based practice and keep updated on the latest acupuncture research projects and I regularly attend postgraduate lectures to further my development. I support the integration of Eastern and Western medicine in treating illness. I believe that by integration the patient has a more comprehensive healthcare and gives the best possible outcomes.

Member of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA) Past member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and an Anxiety UK Approved Practitioner providing therapeutic support to the charity’s members and partner beneficiaries.

I have a warm and friendly personality, and my clinic space provides a safe, professional and caring environment.
